When Women Govern

H.E.  Ms. Ann Ollestad, Ambassador of Norway, inaugurated the exhibition ‘When Woman Govern’ on 2 October 2007 at the Chinmaya Mission in New Delhi. The exhibition was presented on the occasion of the 7th Sarojini Naidu Prize for best reporting on Women and Panchayati Raj, instituted by The Hunger Project.

Ms. Renuka Chowdhury, Minister of State for Women and Child Development, was the chief guest of the occasion.  Ms. Asma Jahangir, eminent lawyer and activist from Pakistan, and Ms. Shabana Azmi, actor and activist, graced the occasion as special guests. Elected women leaders were also present on the occasion.

The exhibition displayed the achievements of elected women leaders in the field of education and their contribution to governance.  Ambassador Ollestad congratulated The Hunger Project for its initiative and said she was impressed by the many interesting and thought provoking speeches made by the women gathered.  She also said she was glad that Norway is supporting the training of local women representatives through the Embassy’s programme on institutional cooperation.
