NOK 20 million for research on animal and fish vaccines

Research cooperation between Norway and India

As a result of the Indo-Norwegian research agreement signed last year, calls for proposals for research on animal and fish vaccines are now announced in both countries. In the 2007 Norwegian national budget NOK 20 million has been earmarked for the initiative. The Norwegian application deadline is 18 April 2007.

The research initiative on animal and fish vaccines aims to strengthen the aquaculture industry and improve animal health in India and Norway, as well as facilitate the development and marketing of discoveries and products through joint cooperation on production.

In Norway the vaccine research initiative is administered by the Research Council in cooperation with the large-scale programme Aquaculture - An Industry in Growth and The Food Programme: Norwegian Food from Sea and Land. In India the Department of Biotechnology at the Ministry of Science and Technology is responsible for the initiative.

The research initiative on animal and fish vaccines is part of a broader collaboration on biotechnology that focuses primarily on human vaccines. Based on meetings between representatives from Norway and India in Bergen and New Delhi in 2006, a platform for cooperation was drawn up, entitled "Roadmap on Indo-Norwegian Collaboration in Vaccination Research". This document sets forth guiding principles for the collaboration. The call for proposals is not limited to the institutions and companies named in the document.
