On 5 September, the Norwegian Government will present a conference entitled Decent Work – A Key to Social Justice for Fair Globalisation. The conference is arranged in cooperation with the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions and the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise. The Financial Times is also a partner.
The International Labour Organization (ILO) has taken a leading role in addressing the social dimension of globalisation, for example through its Decent Work Agenda, which covers full employment, rights at work, social dialogue and social protection. The Norwegian Government supports the Decent Work Agenda, including efforts to promote better coherence in global economic governance.
The objective of the conference is to contribute to the international debate on how support for the ILO’s Decent Work Agenda can help improve economic governance and promote full employment and decent working conditions around the world.
The conference will be attended by senior decision makers in the public and private sectors, including business leaders, government representatives from Norway and other countries, trade unions, employers’ organisations, academia, civil society and the media.
Speakers include:
- Juan Somavia, Director General, International Labour Organization (ILO)
- Pascal Lamy, Director General, World Trade Organization (WTO)
- Mary Robinson, President, Realizing Rights: Ethical Globalization Initiative
- Jonas Gahr Støre, Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs
- Richard Samans, Managing Director, World Economic Forum
