29/04/2008 :: The Norwegian Embassy supports the DSDS Summit for the fourth consecutive year. This reflects the Norwegian Government’s commitment to promoting the environmental agenda in general, and the climate change in special.
This year the Embassy and TERI will arrange a special event during the DSDS. The theme for the seminar will be “Renewable energy and CDM in India: Opportunities offered by Norway”. (The seminar will take place the 6th February at Oberoi Hotel, Neelgiri Room, and will start at 0945 am).
Environmental policy and the commitment to reduce CO2 emissions is not just an important issue for the Norwegian Government. It is of equal importance to the Norwegian business sector, which sees many opportunities in this area.
Norway has developed perhaps the most environmentally benign energy technology in the world, and clusters of industries in different parts of renewable energies. The seminar will address the need for sustainable development and reduced emissions of climate gases, and will give many examples of renewable energy from hydropower, wind power and bio-energy.
Norwegian companies like StatoilHydro, Elkem and SN Power will present what they can offer Indian customers and partners in these areas. They will be supplemented by presentations from advanced Norwegian research institutes specialised in climate change and renewable energies.
The buying and selling of CDM quotas is to an increasing degree a part of normal business life, and for Governments to fulfil their climate policy ambitions. The Ministry of Finance in Norway – who is responsible for the Governments trading in CDMs – will come to India and the seminar. With a budget of 500 million Euro in 2008, Norway has positioned itself as one of the largest commercial buyers of carbon credits in the world.
The seminar should give a unique opportunity for Norwegian and Indian companies, research institutes and government bodies to learn from each other, and to increase the cooperation on these fundamental areas.
Innovation Norway is organising a business delegation to the CEO-Forum. We have 10 companies represented with 17 persons to the CEO-Forum.
One of the participating companies is S N Power.
SN Power, owned by Statkraft and Norfund, is a fast-growing renewable energy company with hydro- and windpower projects under development and in operation in Asia and Latin America. SN Power has been present in India since 2004 through a 49% stake in Malana Power Company. This company owns run-of-river projects in operation and under construction in Himachal Pradesh and has secured licences for new up-coming projects.
