Tourist visa

Last updated: 20.06.2012 //

In order to travel to Norway on a tourist visa, Indian citizens need a Schengen visa. A Schengen visa is a document showing that you have permission to enter Norway and other Schengen countries for a limited period of maximum 90 days.

Competent Embassy:

The Embassy of your main destination is the competent authority to process the application.  The application should be submitted to the Country's representative where you will stay the longest. If the visits in different Schengen countries are of equal length, the first country shall be the determining factor.

A visa to the Schengen countries is issued on condition that the applicant leaves the Schengen area before the visa expires. If you remain in Norway for longer than the visa period, you may be expelled from the country. You may also encounter difficulties in connection with any future applications for visa or residence permit.

Visa application:

A case processing fee must be paid for all visa applications. It is non-refundable. Applicants have to register their application online, pay the fee and book an appointment with one of Cox & Kings Global Service Visa Applicaton Centre in India (www.no.ckgs.in)

Required documents:

Prepare all the necessary documents listed in the checklist before you deliver the application, otherwise the application might be rejected.

Please take a printout of the tourist visa checklist and submit your application to Cox & Kings Global Service Visa Applicaton Centre with supporting documents in the same order as listed in the check list below.

Note: The Embassy reserves the right to request additional information/documentation and, if deemed necessary, to interview the applicant.

A visa issued by a Schengen country permits free movement within the Schengen area, unless otherwise stated on the visa sticker. However, please note that according to article 47 (i) of the Visa Code mere possession of a visa does not confer an automatic right to entry and that the holders of visa are requested to present proof that they fulfil the entry conditions at the external border, as provided for in Article 5 of the Schengen Borders Code.

Multiple entry visas with maximum 90 days validity

A Schengen visa is generally issued for a single entry. If the applicant plans to travel outside the Schengen area and return within the period of the visa, “Two entries” or “Multiple entries” must be ticked off in the visa application form. The Embassy will then assess whether there is a genuine need to be issued a multiple entry visa.

The application must be accompanied by an explanation of why two or more entries are required, as well as a flight booking showing that he/she also plans to visit countries outside the Schengen area; i.e. United Kingdom, Russia or any of the countries that are not members of the Schengen Agreement.

Processing time:

According to Schengen regulations (Visa Code), visa applications shall (as a main rule) be decided on within 15 calendar days. The Embassy will take fifteen days to process the application from the day you submit the complete application and supporting documents to Cox & Kings Global Service Visa Applicaton Centre. Applications can be lodged three months before the start of the intended visit and the Embassy encourage the applicant to submit the application at the earliest.

If an interview is required or documents are lacking the processing time might go up to 30 days.

Before making a follow-up, applicants are respectfully requested to first check when the application was submitted. If the processing time has not been exceeded, your application is still under process and follow-ups should not be made. This will allow us to keep the processing time within 15 days.

Submitting the application forms with the requested documents does not guarantee the issuance of visa.

Cox & Kings Global Service Visa Applicaton Centre will notify the applicant when the passport is ready for collection.

Rejections

If an application has been rejected, the applicant (or the person with Power of Attorney) may appeal the decision within three weeks upon receiving the decision. The appeal has to be signed by the applicant and sent to the Embassy in original. The Embassy can either reverse the decision or forward the appeal to the Directorate of Immigration in Norway (UDI). UDI will then make the final decision as to whether or not a visa shall be granted. For processing times at UDI please click here .
