Indian delegation interacts with Norwegian leaders for forging partnership in Aquaculture

A delegation of Chief Executives of leading Indian companies visited Oslo and Trondheim in Norway to explore opportunities for forging strategic partnerships in the area of aquaculture and fishery sector.

24/08/2007 :: As part of the innovative initiative supported by Royal Norwegian Embassy in India, the leaders met with leading aqua culture enterprises in Norway, Research centers engaged in yield improvement and quality of fishery produce and explored opportunities for value addition through technology adoption. Norway is the world leader in aquaculture and fishery sector.

“Enterprises in Norway are quite appreciative of the high quality human resource available in India and the ability of Indian enterprises to engage in quality manufacture and value addition” said Mr.Vijayaraghavan, Director of Sathguru Management Consultants who led the delegation. The teams visited as part of the Match Making initiative supported by Norwegian Mission in India. “It was indeed a very productive trip for me.  Indian Aquaculture Sector can certainly benefit from knowledge and expertise developed in Norway” said Mr.Santhana Krishnan, CEO of Maritech, Chennai.

Indian aquaculture has the potential to significantly move up in the value chain. Indian enterprises have discussed opportunity to forge strategic partnerships in the area of access to quality seed material, feed material, value addition and branding of value added products for international markets. The team members participated in the Aquanor, the international initiative at Trondheim that has attracted over 5000 participants from different countries.  The delegates explored several opportunities for strategic partnership that would help enterprises to engage in win-win partnership through technology transfer and strategic investments in market development. The team members evinced interest in novel technologies for brood stock management, seed multiplication and hatchery development, feed development with balanced nutrition, novel process technologies that can significantly enhance the shelf value of the aqua products and manufacture of high value therapeutic products with active ingredients drawn from fishery products.
