The Norwegian Embassy co-sponsored a three-days conference on Responsibilty to the future: business peace and sustainability organised by Strategic Foresight Group (SFG), a think tank based in Mumbai, that took place from June 26 to 28, 2008.

In her introductory address H.E. Ann Ollestad, Ambassador of Norway to India highligted Norway’s priority on ensuring energy security and addressing the global challenge of climate change. She mentioned that by developing partnerships with India, between industry, research and government, both nations would be part of developing a successful low carbon economic growth in India, and at the same time help Norway meet their national climate target of becoming carbon neutral by 2030.

Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde, Minister for Energy of India, H.E. S C Jamir, Governor of Maharashtra and Goa, Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh, Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Mr. R R Patil, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra were among the prominent gusets present at the conference.
Dr. Stein Tønnesson, Director PRIO and board member of Norfund and Dr. Poul Engberg- Pedersen, Director-General, Norad, also participated from Norway.
The conference was designed to bring together innovative business leaders from different parts of the world, directors of peace research institutes; authors and film-makers on the subject; leading economists, technology experts and climate experts; leaders of banking, finance and insurance companies and statesmen/women to discuss and explore linkages between business, peace and sustainability.
