Indo-Norwegian conference on social conflict

Last updated: 12/04/2010 // Highly respected economists met this weekend for a conference on social conflicts in New Delhi. The conference was hosted by Delhi school of economics in collaboration with University of Oslo.

The conference highlighted among others Hindu/Muslim conflicts, conflicts over resources, caste and policy and conflict and peace.

From Norway Halvor Melhum and Kalle Moene attended. Their focus was on how we can explain the dramatic change from class conflict to class collaboration. Important aspects were what can we learn for the Scandinavian welfare model and how can this be used in other parts of the world to solve conflicts.

After seven years of collaboration between Norway and the US this was the first conference to be held in Delhi, and another one is scheduled by the end of 2010.

Researchers from USA, India, Spain and Norway attended  the conference.
