‘ClimaRice’, a Norway supported project, launches website

‘ClimaRice’ - a project working from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Coimbatore - has launched a website that will disseminate research findings to wider stakeholders working on climate change adaptability and mitigation measures. The website will help to network the findings and get feedback with wider stakeholders in order that results could be used in areas far away of similar situations.

Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi has supported the research project ‘ClimaRice’ through Norwegian Institute for Agricultural and Environmental Research (Biorforsk), AS Norway to undertake research activities with relevant partners on climate change impacts on rice production system in the state of Tamil Nadu. Bioforsk in partnership with Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and International Pacific Research Centre (IPRC), Hawaii will work towards realisation of the objectives envisaged under the project.

ClimaRice is an integrated project that aims to assess the climate variability and its impacts on the water availability and rice production systems in the Cauvery river basin of Tamil Nadu. The overall goal is to contribute to the regional and national adaptation strategies to sustain rice production and ensure food security amidst changing climate.

The total Norwegian contribution to the project will be NOK 6.00 million over a period of three years.
