Norway - partner country for DIREC

Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference (DIREC) is the 4th global ministerial level conference on renewable energy following successful editions in Washington DC (2008), Beijing (2005) and Bonn (2004). This is an international platform to promote renewable energy globally and in developing countries in particular. Cabinet level government functionaries from a number of countries will join civil society partners and private sector leaders to discuss the opportunities and challenges of a global, rapid deployment of renewable energy as well as its contribution to combating climate change.

Norway has been invited by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India to be a partner country to DIREC 2010. On Monday 18 October 2010 the Norwegian Ambassador to India, Ms. Ann Ollestad, and Mr. Prem Behl, Chairman for the Exhibition India Group, signed an agreement on Norway’s support to the conference.

Norway will participate in the event with a high level delegation including Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr. Trond Giske, and State Secretary in Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, Mr. Per Rune Henriksen. Other government representatives, a business delegation and some research and development organizations will also participate.

The DIREC-trade show is spread over a 20,000 square meter area and will be the largest B-2-B exhibition of its kind in India. It will be showcasing cutting edge renewable energy technologies and services. Approximately 250 delegates, 5.000 visitors, and 20.000 trade visitors will visit the conference and a network of 600 exhibitors and 14 country pavilions – among them the Norwegian pavilion.

In addition to the Norwegian delegates that participate as speakers in the main programme, there will be two official Norwegian side events. Together with INTPOW and Innovation Norway, The Royal Norwegian Embassy is organizing a side event on Enabling more Renewable Energy Generation in India – Lessons learned from Norwegian policy, project and technology development experience Wednesday 27 October. The Norwegian Embassy also organizes, together with IREDA and CII, a round-table discussion on Mini-Grids for Remote Village Electrification on Thursday 28 October. You are all cordially invited to visit the Norwegian pavilion and attend the above-mentioned side events.
