The workshop was a part of the industry-orientated BILAT-INDIA project (2009-2011) between India and Norway.
The overall project results have shown to contribute to a better understanding of mineral waste like fly ash, bottom ash and construction waste in India. This has a direct impact on preservation of natural mineral resources like lime stones and agricultural soils. It promotes environmentally sustainable solutions and results in reduced CO2 emission. The experiences from the project may also provide the basis for a change in the excising code-of-practice.
Project contributes to sustainable development
The project and the workshop were highly appreciated by the participants, and the proposals were presented to initiate follow-up activities related to waste management in India. It was concluded as a good example of Indo-Norwegian cooperation that contributes to sustainable development.
Norwegian research institution SINTEF, and the Indian partners National Environment Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) and the National Council for Cement and Concrete Materials (NCB), in addition to about 120 participants from academia, industries, public authorities and research institutions attended the workshop with a common focus on reuse of waste.
