In cooperation with the Norwegian Embassy and the Telenor Group, the Norwegian Art Group “Verdensteateret” presented a spectacular show of their performance "And All the Question marks Started to Sing." The title is a line adopted from Nobel prize winning Swedish poet Thomas Transtrõmer’s ‘The Great Enigma.’ The performance took place at Kolkata’s famous monument of national importance “the Currency Building” recently. The Currency Building was opened to the public at such large scale and for an art performance for the first time.
The show enthralled the audience with a mix of animation, micro puppetry, music, lights and shadow play, while also drawing attention to the significance of the great venue chosen for this event. It included a combination of art installation, performance and concert set in a landscape of kinetic sculptures.
It was not the first time that this show captured the imagination of the audience. This captivating and poetic work of art has been a great success all over the world in a very short span of time since it opened in 2010. The Kolkata performance brought their successful world tour to an end.
“The Norwegian Embassy cultural program with India is an important part of our cooperation, and Kolkata is an exciting city and a cultural hub.The experience of this performance has encouraged us to continue on our joint venture with culture institutions in Kolkata”, emphasized ambassador Ollestad.
With the aim to bring the old and new together, this show attempted at combining new technology with old mechanics. The Archaeological Survey of India contributed greatly to this effort by allowing the use of the beautiful monument of national importance for the show.
