Four Norwegian picture books for children, translated into Hindi were launched by H.E. Ambassador Ann Ollestad at the National Bal Bhawan on Saturday 25th of April.
From Young Indian EyesMore then 300 children from different schools and NGOs attended the book launch, which promotes the four first ever illustrated Norwegian children books translated into Hindi. Each child was given one of the picture books to take home with them. Four children has been presented the book beforehand, and told the audience about their views of the books. - I recommend everyone to read Slangen i graset because it is about this cute fluffy she rabbit and her dream world, said young Ashani Dhar. Sushuruti Tripathi said she identified herself with Tor-Åge Bringsvær`s book Når to er sinte på hverandre, and even included her little sister to act a scene from their everyday life for the audience. Ultimate Understanding- Books carry stories from one corner of the world to the other. It makes us understand that the world is big and very different. They teach us about other children and other countries and they help us to think about what is special about our selves and our own country. Both things are very important today for you children growing up in a global world, with these words Ambassador Ann Ollestad removed the cover and launched the four picture books for children, translated into Hindi. Global Book BridgeThis book project is made in cooperation between Norwegian Literature Abroad (NORLA) and A & A Book Trust which promotes books for economically disadvantaged children in India. The project started after the editor of the trust Ms. Arundhati Deosthale, was invited by NORLA to Lillehammer Literary Festival. Deosthale interacted with major Norwegian children’s publishers like Gyldendal, Cappelens Dam, and Ashehoug. Out of this visit the idea of creating a book bridge for children of both the countries was born. More children`s books will hopefully be translated from Norwegian to Hindi next year.
