Norway: Heaven on Earth

Radhika Shrinagesh, an art curator, visited Oslo to attend the opening of the contemporary art exhibition «Indian Highway» at the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art. Perhaps, it was more than just art that the country left an unforgettable mark on her heart and soul.

‘I think God took extra time when he was creating this part of the world’.

The English language is not comprehensive enough to adequately do justice to Norway, on landing one was for the first time possessed with an over whelming sense of deficiency of words as well a range of emotions to sufficiently embrace the heart-stopping impact that this artic wonderland has on you. From the air it looked like a dazzling prismatic crystal however clichéd it sounds and eloquently put, just is not enough.

One really has to be standing there and even then amazingly the very reality of nature belies itself by being surreal almost. It is like touching the tip of the proverbial iceberg, metaphorically and literally its pristine fjords sprigged by glittering glaciers against a ground of wilderness of dark deep conifers interspersed by flower’s be decked alpine meadows, would be enough to inspire one to plumb our descriptive depths for poetic expression.

If there is one thing that can make you unbelievably look beyond the natural visual poetry that surrounds us, impossible as that may be is the character that Norway possesses.

They as the character is something that remains hidden and in this instance that was never truer because the heart of a place is truly in its people as it unfolds on interacting with their they effortless warmth and open hospitality combined with a professionalism and efficiency make’s us appreciate how they were so successful in mounting their sea fairing expeditions in the day of their Viking ancestors.

Visiting the offices for Contemporary Art and the Young Artist Association. The literary department's selection of their books was enriching. Didn’t have the time, would have loved to see the Edward Munch Museum, the 'Scream' a painting done by him was very inspirational to me during my art college.

I believe Norway has a royal family and visiting the castle, sight seeing, studying the Viking history experiencing their gigantic ships and traveling to the north, swimming with the whales is still left to be done…

Norway, captivating country incredible, indescribable and unforgettable an experience that inspires the senses and the soul…
