Film festival on climate change

Last updated: 13/08/2010 // In collaboration with the Royal Norwegian Embassy, CMS VATAVARAN showcases more than 40 award winning films in eight Indian cities during the travelling film festival.

The fourth travelling edition of India’s premier environment and wildlife film festival and forum is being orgainsed in 2010 (July – December 2010) in eight cities of India – Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Patna, Port Blair, Shillong, Shimla and Trivandrum.

The Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) and Royal Norwegian Embassy (RNE) are the India Principal partners for 2010 CMS VATAVARAN. The theme of the 2010 Film Festival & Environment Forum is climate change and sustainable technologies.

The film festival showcases more than 40 award winning films during the three-day film festival in every city. The panorama section of film festival has green feature films and is showcased in the evening. In addition to film screenings and open forums, CMS Environment Forum focuses on debating, discussing and bringing to the fore contemporary environmental challenges. The festival and forum aims to promote sustainable technologies, with a focus on green production and delivery methods, convergence and fusion of new consumer services, and on the notion of 'collective goods' for greater environmental efficiency, which can usher in a new green order.

The Norwegian Embassy’s support to the CMS VATAVARAN 2010 reflects Norway’s commitment to strengthen, intensify and further develop a mutually beneficial cooperation with India through strategic use of its resources and expertise. As stated in the Norwegian Government’s India Strategy, launched in August 2009, Norway reaffirms its commitments to strengthening the dialogue and cooperation with India on sustainable solutions to national and global environmental and climatic issues.

A new initiative during 2010 CMS VATAVARAN is the felicitation of Green heroes, who have been doing remarkable work in the field of environment conservation, environment education and dissemination. Three green heroes in Shimla CMS VATAVARAN and six in Hyderabad CMS VATAVARAN were recently felicitated.

The first CMS VATAVARAN Environment and Wildlife Travelling Film Festival was organised in 2004 in Chennai. Since then 26 festivals has been organised in 19 cities with overwhelming participation from the cities and generous support from respective state governments, local administration, industries and organisations.
