Indian heavy metal to Norway

Last updated: 29/09/2011 // Indian metal band looks forward to presenting their music to a Norwegian audience for the first time: -It’s going to be a package of relentless brutality and unremitting heaviness with twisted grooves thrown in for added flavour, band members of the Indian extreme metal band Undying Inc say. October 7 and 8, the band from New Delhi will be on stage in the city of Trondheim, as a part of the week long event India 2011.

When The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) organizes India 2011 from 1 to 9 October 2011, the goal is to strengthen cooperation between Norway and India in culture, research, higher education and business development. Here, Indian heavy metal will be part of the picture, as an example of what Indian culture holds in 2011. The concerts in the city of Trondheim are a collaboration between NTNU, SPIC MACAY, Entertainment Media Services and Concerts Norway, financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The interest for heavy metal is steadily growing in India. One of the bands who have been paid attention to, is Undying Inc. Their last album ”Aggressive World Dynasty” was hailed as #1 Metal Album Of The Year in India i 2010.

Torch + Undying Inc.
Undying Inc. will give two concerts in the city of Trondheim, together with the Norwegian metal band Torch. Torch's newest album got great reviews in Norway this autumn. Now the members of Torch can't wait to play with Undying Inc.:

-We look forward to getting to know the boys in Undying Inc., and hope they will get a good impression of Norway. The metal audience in Trondheim is a very committed one. For us, it is important that Undying Inc. gets the chance to experience the great atmosphere here, guitarist Ola Pettersen says.

Great diversity
Artistically and musically the diversity is great during the India 2011 event. In addition to Indian extreme metal, four musicians and one dancer will showcase the finest of the South-Indian music tradition on various scenes in the city, school concerts and workshops in the city. The artists are all award winning and  acclaimed both in India and internationally.

In addition to word leading, Indian fields within among others technology, science and architecture that are present in Trondheim these days, culture is also a very important part of the picture, Rector at NTNU, Torbjørn Digernes, says:

- With a total of more than 100 cultural events, India 2011 is also a gift of knowledge and culture to the citizens of Trondheim and to the county as a whole, Digernes says.

India next!
After this event, both of the metal bands leave for India. -New fans are of course on the top of our list, but we will also check ot Indian metal. After having heard some Indian metal bands, I was surprised to see the quality as well as how hard it was!,  guitarist and vocalist in Torch, Jørgen Sporsheim Berg says.
