He gladly admits that he is not at all ready for departure on the 19 of January. On purpose he has only brought “parts of music”, as he plans to be able to change everything there and then.
- That’s jazz. The music is created while you play, Olav Dale says.
This is where the young audience comes in, those who keep him ‘live and kicking as a musician, according to himself:
- Giving concerts for children through all these years, has taught me that you have to be 100% present. Just showing up and playing the repertoire, isn't enough. You have to be there, feel the atmosphere, change and arrange during the concert. That really revitalize you as a musician.
First time
It’s DABRHAHI’s first time to India, and the quartet’s first school concerts. Dale himself is an experienced school musician. The tour to India is under the auspices of Concerts Norway together with their Indian partner, Spic Macay. The cooperation is financed by The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the next two weeks, the jazz quartet will give concerts in the cities of Delhi and Pune – in schools, colleges as well as public concerts.
New project
DABRHAHI is the first Norwegian band to mark the start of a cooperation between Concerts Norway and two major schools in Delhi (among them Tagore International School). These schools are to take part in a project where the aim is to deepen their knowledge in Norwegian music. The next two years, several Norwegian musicians will visit the two schools. When DABRHAHI visits, they are going to work intensively with a number of pupils for three days. The result will be presented in a school concert, where the pupils take part. The same project exists in Rogaland, in the West of Norway, where schools receive Indian musicians in order to enhance their knowledge about Indian music.
Groovy
DABRHAHI’s music can be characterized as melodious, rhythmical and groovy jazz, according to Dale. He expects ”all and nothing” in India because the result will appear there and then:
- I can’t play a single concert without any form of communication. That’s music! Dale says.
