- We are delighted to invite the Kolkata audience to a very special art event where contemporary art from Norway meets the rich cultural heritage of Kolkata, says Lisbeth Bodd and Asle Nilsen, the main artists behind the performance.
New technology meets Kolkata’s old heritage
The work will both be exhibited as an electromechanical installation and performed as a live performance / concert. It can be described as an art-machine played by musicians, performers and robots.
Physically the work appears as a landscape of highly original kinetic sculptures, that activate a diversity of animation techniques, micro puppetry, music, lights and shadowplay. All objects produce art and are also a part in it.
-The Norwegian Embassy and Verdensteatret are proud that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) opens the protected monument Currency Building for this art project. It is the first time an art installation and performance will take place in this beautiful building, says HE Ambassador Ann Ollestad. She will together with a specially invited group open the performance in Kolkata this weekend.
World famous
This work has been presented around the world since the opening in 2010. Verdensteatret rounds up their long touring activity by setting up And All the Questionmarks Started to Sing in the courtyard of the Currency Building in Kolkata.
The works of Verdensteatret is presented widely international in different art-contexts such as art museums, performance /theatre festivals, contemporary music venues, interdiciplinary art festivals and exhibitions, etc. The landscape of kinetic sculptures creates a room in constant transformation. The sonic expression stretches and contracts dephts and distances by moving physically in the room through a network of loudspeakers. Sound, image and movement has melted into one unit and cannot be separated from each other again.
Verdensteatret
The art group was founded in 1986, and is based in Oslo (Norway). The artists from different art-fields work together and make large scale installations, performances and concerts. They endeavour to use a collaborative process to deeply integrate different artistic disciplines into projects that bridge the gap between artistic boarders. Characteristic for their work is that they are building exquisite links between seemingly incompatible technologies and materials. www.verdensteatret.com All are welcome to the performance:
