Strengthens Indo-Norwegian Education

20 vice-chancellors from various universities and colleges in Norway visited several potential partner institutions in Delhi and Bangalore in February 2009. Several of the visiting institutions already have collaborations with Indian universities, while others want to establish contact with potential partner institutions.

The background for the visit was the then Indian Minister of Science and Technology Mr. Kapil Sibal’s visit to several educational institutions in Norway in 2006. The Norwegian Minister of Education did a follow-up visit to several educational institutions in Delhi, Bangalore and Goa in 2007, to further the Indo-Norwegian bilateral educational relations. The institutions visited were Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Indian Institute of Technology, Department of Science and Technology, University in the Sky, Accenture, St. John’s Research Institute, Indian Institute of Science and the Indian Institute of Management.

Globalized Education
The Norwegian institutions are interested in developing closer relations with Indian institutions, particularly for research cooperation and also exchanging of ideas/students. There is great interest towards impact of globalization, internationalization and outsourcing.

During the visit a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Himgiri Nabh Vishwavidyalaya (University in the Sky), Dehradun, India and the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, Norway, to promote academic partnership, cooperation and collaboration.
