Last updated: 24/02/2010 // During Lars Peder Brekk’s visit to India, the Norwegian Embassy of India and Bioforsk signed a new contract, for a new pilot project.

- It is an honour to be a part of this ongoing task, of continuously developing the relation between Norway and India, said Research Director at Bioforsk, Mr. Nils Vagstad.

- I am convinced that a well developed co-operation between the research and development area is an important factor in further developing a good professional and institutional cooperation. In order to succeed at doing this, we need to have a practical entrance through goal oriented project activities. Nothing can ever replace doing field research together, said Vagstad.

The pilot project, which is still at a planning stage, is meant to be a tool in the development of a new research programme, ensuring food production during changing climate conditions. The focus is on climate changes and the adaptation to these, with a special focus on water management, agriculture and food security, and living conditions in India’s agricultural areas. The research work is based upon close contact between farmers, local- and regional governments. A main goal is also to reduce the gap between science and the actual development of policies, through actively engage the stakeholders and the local governments all the way.

The contract signature was set during a reception in the Norwegian Embassy’s garden, New Delhi, supervised by the minister of Agriculture and Food, Mr. Lars Peder Brekk.

- We look forward to continue our cooperation with Bioforsk, said Norway’s Ambassador to India, Ann Ollestad.
