Ibsen scholarships seek innovative theatre projects

14.02.2017 // Henrik Ibsen is the most known Norwegian playwright. He wrote several landmark theatrical pieces such as the famous Doll’s House.

In appreciation of Henrik Ibsen, the “Ibsen Awards” is now announcing the Ibsen Scholarships 2017.

In total, the funds add up to 2 million NOK or approximately 235 000 USD . The funds can be applied for by theatre projects worldwide. The Scholarships are applicable to individual artists, theatre companies, organizations and institutions.

Following are the guidelines for the Scholarships 2017:

•The Ibsen Scholarships award innovative theatre projects. 

•The projects must act as incentives for critical discourse in regard to existential and society related matters concerning Henrik Ibsen’s plays.

•Applications are submitted electronically through www.ibsenawards.com.

•Performances already staged are not eligible.

The Ibsen Scholarships were initiated by the Norwegian government and will be handed out for the 9th time in 2017. So far, 29 scholarships in 22 countries have been awarded. The application deadline for this year is April 30th, 2017.

The Scholarships are awarded biannually and the applications are subject to scrutiny by an appointed jury.

The winners of The Ibsen Scholarships 2017 will be presented at Skien International Ibsen Conference on October 18 and 19 2017 at Teater Ibsen in Skien, Norway.
