The Indian Prime Minister in his meeting with the Norwegian Prime Minister, welcomed investments from Norway's telecom sector as well as 'significant flows from Norway's pension fund', noting potential for cooperation in renewable energy and hydropower.

The Prime Minister made a visit to Rampura in Uttar Pradesh, the first village to get a Community Solar Power Plant by Scatec Solar. He took the opportunity to visit Rampura to examine the opportunities solar energy represents in bringing climate friendly power to areas that currently have no access to electricity.  Sactec solar, together with Indian and Norwegian governments, is scaling-up of the solar energy project for rural electrification in India. “With technology from Norway and sun from India, this project proves that private companies, government organizations and rural communities can work together to achieve sustainable development”, said Prime Minister Stoltenberg.

In his keynote address at the 10th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS), Prime Minister Stoltenberg pitched for a legally binding global treaty to curb global warming, and joined prime ministers of Greece, Finland, Slovenia and Bhutan defending the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report's findings about the impact of global warming on glaciers and sea levels. "Some of the recommendations have been subject to criticism. In principle, I welcome criticism. I congratulate R.K. Pachauri for taking steps to correct mistakes," said Prime Minister Stoltenberg.  "But the main point of climate panel's report remains unchanged. Polar ice is melting. Sea levels are rising and the globe is warming," the prime minister added.  He also warned against using criticism of the IPCC report for gaining political ends.

The Prime Minister met the Indian Minister of Environment and Forests, Jairam Ramesh for discussions on climate and environmental issues. Important topics for the meeting were the process towards COP 16 and the bilateral cooperation on climate and environment.

The Prime Minister also met the Indian Minister of Health, Ghulam Nabi Azad for briefings on National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), The Norway-India Partnership Initiative (NIPI) that follows the understanding between the two governments to collaborate toward the reduction of child mortality in India and also on discussions and dialogues on for contributing towards reaching to achieve the MDG 4 goals.
