The World Snowboarding Championship 2012

Last updated: 19/12/2011 // The World Snowboarding Championship (WSC) in Oslo is the first championship run by snowboarders since 1999.

The WSC is the new pinnacle event of snowboarding and will be held every four years at top snowboarding locations around the world. It is a freestyle event only, with half pipe and slope style as the main formats. In Oslo 2012, a monster quarter pipe event in the legendary Holmenkollen ski jump arena will kick-start the finals.

The WSC is not only a championship, but also part of the Ticket To Ride (TTR) World Snowboard Tour. Snowboarding is not about winning an Olympic medal or World Championship every four years, but a daily endeavour for young people around the planet. With a six-star tiering, the WSC brings together the whole snowboarding community, both nurturing grassroots activities in lower-tier events and shining a light on the superstars of our progressive sport. In the riders’ eyes, winning the tour will always be prestigious – reflecting risks and achievements over a full season.

The WSC was developed and is owned by Ticket To Ride (TTR) and the World Snowboard Federation (WSF). It is organised by Snowboard-VM 2012 AS, which is owned by the Arctic Challenge, the Norwegian Snowboard Federation and Oslo Vinterpark. The WSC has the full backing of the global snowboard community as expressed by the unanimous vote at the TTR and WSF general assemblies in Barcelona, in May 2010
