Conan conquers the games market

One of the most anticipated video games in the market, Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, was recently released by the Norwegian company Funcom.

19/06/2008 :: The game is based on the Conan fantasy series by Robert E. Howard. The figure of Conan, which he created in the 1930s, has formed the basis for a number of spin-offs in the form of books, comics and films. Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures is a massively-multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG), which means that you can play with or against thousands of other players on the Internet.

Video-game enthusiasts all over the world have been awaiting the release of this game with great anticipation. The release was postponed several times as Funcom wanted to perfect every detail, and this has further increased expectations.

Large-scale celebration
The release was celebrated on a large scale at the Holmenkollen ski jump in Oslo at the end of May. The venue had been converted into an authentic Conan setting for the occasion. The Norwegian rock band Turbonegro performed, and more than 100 foreign journalists attended the release.

Top of the best-seller lists
The game has sold rapidly and has reached the top of the official best-seller lists for computer games in Germany, the US, the UK, France, Australia, Italy, Sweden, Spain and Norway. Morten Larssen, Vice President of Sales and Marketing in Funcom commented in a press release: “The numbers are very promising, and we are very proud to be one of the fastest selling PC games ever.”

The game has also featured on the front page of several video-game magazines and has won several prizes. More than eight million people from more than 200 countries have visited the Age of Conan website.
