Indians number one of skilled foreigners in Norway

Indians accounted in 2007 for the largest number of foreign professionals in Norway on a specialist permit, a recent report from PTI shows.

Indian professionals in Norway makes up one fourth of the total foreign workforce inducted in Norwegian companies on these permits. The IT sector, as well as the areas of petroleum and healthcare consituted the sectors with the highest Indian representation. Norway received in 2007a total of 617 qualified professionals from India, followed by Russia (254), China (231) and the US (215).

The trade between Norway and India has experienced a massive increase of 88 % in the first quarter of 2008 compared to that of 2007. Given that this trend continues, the bilateral trade could cross US $ 1 billion this year. The growth is primarily driven by an increase in the maritime and the offshore sectors.
