Welcome to Oslo and an exciting world congress
IFHP September 6th 2004, the world’s leading professionals in urban planning and housing development will meet in Oslo. The city is hosting the 48th World Congress.
IFHP
The IFHP (International Federation for Housing and Planning) has been an important professional meeting place for nearly 100 years.
Theme
"Governance for Urban Change" will be the focus of the three-day congress. In attendance will be planners, developers, architects and political leaders, all of whom face major challenges in planning residential areas, towns, cities and regions.
Talented speakers have been invited to discuss new research as well as successful and not-so-successful urban development projects. Parts of the programme will focus on Oslo’s own urban development.
International
More than 600 participants from around the world are expected at the 48th IFHP World Congress. Today, population centres in Asia and Australia face many of the same challenges faced by Europe and the Nordic countries. The international expertise, ideas and impulses exchanged in Oslo will be both stimulating and useful.
The speakers represent a broad spectrum of professional experience and expertise.
Format
The congress will feature broad presentations in plenary session as well as discussions in working groups and call-for-paper sessions. Local study tours and site visits will enlarge upon the conference’s main theme. No less important will be the many opportunities to socialize and build professional networks.

Thanks to the work of an international scientific committee led by Anne Sæterdal, the IFHP World Congress in Oslo will be a landmark event for anyone interested in "Governance for Urban Change." Urban planning is no longer just for big cities. Good, holistic planning is important for entire regions as well as small towns, municipal districts and city neighbourhoods.
