The longed for Opera House at the sea side in Oslo will formally be opened on 12 April by His Majesty King Harald of Norway. The Opera is Norway’s second largest cultural building, only beaten by the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim. The opening of this magnificent institution will be celebrated throughout the month of April.
07/04/2008 :: At the grand opening on 12 April, more than 1300 guests will be present among them representatives from the Scandinavian Royal Families, state leaders as well as ordinary audience who raffled for tickets.
The evening’s programme contains five classical ballets, humorous”pearls” and nostalgic tribute to the old opera. 20 solo singers will perform, among them stars like Maria Guleghina, Anja Harteros, Solveig Kringlebotn, Elizabeth Norberg-Schulz and René Pape. Also, a gigantic choir with singers from all local municipalities in Norway has been established for the event.
The new Opera’s vision is to gain a larger audience by offering quality music, not only from the classical area. Jazz- and Rock music will also be performed here, and in August the London based Bollywood Brass Band will thrill the audience with Bhangra and Punjabi folk songs.
