The conference took place in Delhi, and was organised by the Institute for Defence Studies and Analysis (IDSA) and the International Peace Research Institute (PRIO) in Oslo, June 23-24.
01/07/2008 :: The Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs, Mr. Nalin Surie inaugurated the conference. Several researchers participated in the two-day event, among them professors from Indian, European and African academic institutions and members of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
The issue of Africa’s role in the global search for oil was the main topic discussed during the conference. In relation to this, analysis was made on India’s policies towards extracting energy from the African continent, China’s position, and the consequences African countries experience when opening up for foreign export. The conference was concluded with closing remarks of Mr. Anand Sharma, Indian Minister of State External Affaires.
