About 30 Norwegian students have spent a month in the Indian capital researching and understanding environmental and developmental issues facing India.
09/04/2008 :: Collaboration between the Centre for Development and Environment (SUM) of the University of Oslo and the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) in Delhi has made this an annual opportunity possible for the students in the fields of environment, social geography and development studies.
Their stay in CSE had a mixture of formal lectures, meetings with experts and field excursions to rural areas in neighbouring states. Their research has resulted in three interesting outputs: a website campaign, a magazine and stands with environmental themes, all developed under the joint headline “React”.
Their projects highlight different aspects of India’s environment and challenges as well as identifying alternative methods of energy and environmental conservation.
In essence, the projects aim is to create awareness around the subjects of environment and development.
The environmental advisor at the Norwegian Embassy, Mr. B. Siddarthan, visited and interacted with the students on their final day of their stay and answered a wide range of questions regarding the India- Norway cooperation on climate and environment.
