Norwegian Constitution Day celebrated in New Delhi

The Norwegian Constitution Day was celebrated at the Embassy in New Delhi on May 17.

21/05/2008 :: The day was marked by a gathering of the Norwegian colony in India in the morning, with a traditional breakfast and games for the children.

In the evening, the Ambassador invited Norwegians as well as Norwegian contacts in India to a reception in the residence.

This year additionally marks the 200 year anniversary for  Norway's national poet,  Henrik Wergeland.  In addition to the  beautiful poetry he  wrote, Wergeland was  also a great advocate of everyone’s right to celebrate the  Constitution day. He also introduced the tradition of  the children’s parade,  which till date is the very symbol of 17 May.

Th e Wergeland commemoration was mentioned in the Ambassador's welcome speech at the reception.  Two young and talented Indian actors , Sonam Kalra and Arun Das, read two of Wergeland’s poems which was well received by the invited guest .
