The Norwegian Constitution Day was celebrated at the Embassy in New Delhi on May 17.
21/05/2008 :: The day was marked by a gathering of the Norwegian colony in India in the morning, with a traditional breakfast and games for the children.
In the evening, the Ambassador invited Norwegians as well as Norwegian contacts in India to a reception in the residence.
This year additionally marks the 200 year anniversary for Norway's national poet, Henrik Wergeland. In addition to the beautiful poetry he wrote, Wergeland was also a great advocate of everyone’s right to celebrate the Constitution day. He also introduced the tradition of the children’s parade, which till date is the very symbol of 17 May.
Th e Wergeland commemoration was mentioned in the Ambassador's welcome speech at the reception. Two young and talented Indian actors , Sonam Kalra and Arun Das, read two of Wergeland’s poems which was well received by the invited guest .
